If you are somehow unfamiliar with BeeJive, it is one of a handful of must have applications for any BlackBerry user, and is the only app that we fully recommend purchasing.
There is no better time than the next week to make said purchase; BeeJiveIM will be on sale from Midnight PT Monday, February 23, until Midnight PT Sunday, March 1. Both the user license (normally $29.95 USD) and the device license (normally $19.95) will be discounted $5.00 for the next week. If you are one of the few that haven’t previously purchased a license for the app, you’ll want to get on board as BeeJive prepares for a major upgrade to the app in the next few weeks. Our hope is this is the much anticipated Storm update. As usual, the upgrade will be free of charge.
BeeJiveIM supports AIM/iChat/MobileMe, MSN/Windows Live, Yahoo!, MySpace, GoogleTalk, SameTime®, ICQ, & Jabber and puts all of your accounts in a single application on your BlackBerry device.
To purchase BeeJiveIM for BlackBerry at the sale price, visit http://beejive.com/blackberry/.

Twitter is one of the most popular online services, and recent traffic boom (just recently twitter reached digg’s market share) proves that. But what option do we have to Twitt on Blackberry? Some fast googline for “twitter” and “blackberry” reveals TwitterBerry as the most popular choice. TwitterBerry is free, easy mobile aplication for any BlackBerry (it works on most RIM devices from 7000, 8000 series, to Bold and even brand new Storm). What is really good, is that TwitterBerry allows you to psot updates and follow your friends thru dta network, supporting BlackBerry Internet Browsing Service (BIS-B or BIBS), BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and even direct TCP data connection (which means it will use WiFi when you are in coverage and connected to SSID), meaning you can stop spending your money on SMSs to update yourself…
TwitterBerry works on BlackBerry OS 4.1.0+ (but if you want TwitPic support, you better update to BlackBerry OS 4.2 and newer). It is a lightweight application, which you can install over the air (OTA), by following instructions on web page of producer, Orangatame Software.
TwitterBerry allows you to update your status, upload picture to TwitPic (just open media viewer, select the picture, and while in full scren mode, select “Send to TwitterBerry”. When TwitterBerry opens, just write the comment under the picture and submit – and you are done!).
With a single click from the BlackBerry home screen, you can input Twitter updates, follow and answer replies… Great feature is a timeline, that lets you view your latest posts and the last public posts of friends you are following.
You can access TwitterBerry faster via the BlackBerry menu key.
With version 0.7 and 0.8 you can now refresh friends’ timelines, replies and personal timelines from within application. Changes include also longer list of tweets (200 instead of 20), direct message sending and view your direct message inbox, new network indicator dialogs… You can mark tweets as favorite or delete them from any timeline. URLs in tweets can be selected and opened in your BlackBerry Browser
TwitterBerry can even automatically update Twitter streams and provide notifications. It allows you to set update period for data polling – from 1 minute to few hours. For hard core tweeters one poll per minute is recommended setting, and TwetterBerry is not responsible for not going beyond this, as Twitter itself limits the number of tweet requests to about 70 per hour. Therefore to avoid service interruptions on your Twitter account, TwitterBerry pulls less frequently. But – this limitation is just for data polling – Twitter does not limit the number of tweets you post.
You can download TwitterBerry from your BlackBerry. Just open browser and visit http://orangatame.com/ota/twitterberry/ on your BlackBerry, and follow with installation…
Hint: Save time and use shortcuts on all list screens: ‘r’ to reply, and ‘d’ to send a direct message! Enjoy! – via blackberry-report.com

Finally, the wait is over for all you 8830 World Edition owners out there that have been hanging on patiently (perhaps not so patiently?) for an official release of the 4.5 OS. Of course, all the upgrade procedures and discussion forums are indicated below, be sure to check them out.

Reckon the Blackberry is only good for email? Maybe when it’s fresh out of the box. But if you want to bump it up a few notches, here are seven powerful applications that can transform the way you use and interact with your BlackBerry.
Jott for BlackBerry
In a previous article, I covered tips for getting more from BlackBerry email. One application I didn’t mention is Jott for BlackBerry, which is an extension of its main service that lets you reply to messages using your voice. Jott transcribes your verbal message to text before sending it on to the recipient and includes a link in the email to hear the voice recording in case of transcription errors. The Jott voice recognition engine is amazing – even my laid-back Aussie drawl, which is usually a challenge for anyone out of the country to understand, let alone a machine, was transcribed with 100% accuracy.
eOffice
eOffice is the only document editor for BlackBerry currently available, but its real killer feature is integration with Google Docs and Spreadsheets. Using this program, you can open and edit files in your online account, as well as save files you’ve created on the BlackBerry directly to your Google account. But it still needs work: in my testing, the connection would time out more times than not, or throw up errors that the document I was trying to open was empty or invalid.
RDM+
Another means of accessing files that aren’t stored locally is RDM+, a remote access program that lets you connect to your PC, navigate your desktop using the BlackBerry’s trackball and keyboard, run programs and transfer files between your BlackBerry and PC. Using it over an EDGE connection is interminably slow, but it’s easy to set up and pays for itself the first time you leave an urgent file on your PC and don’t have any other means of retrieving it.
PocketDay
If you use your BlackBerry for time management, PocketDay is a must-have as it aggregates all of your PIM items and unread messages into a single screen. I’ve never subscribed to the idea of having tasks and appointments in separate applications – I need to see all of my meetings and to-do items in one place so I can organize my time effectively, and PocketDay provides that functionality, in addition to letting you save individual emails as actionable appointments or tasks and view other information like weather, stocks, world time and RSS feeds on one screen.
JiveTalk
If you use IM for chatting with colleagues and clients, JiveTalk will make your life a lot easier. It works across all major IM platforms, supports file transfers and chat transcripts (and even lets you email transcripts for a permanent record of discussions), and makes it easy to switch between multiple chat windows.
BlackBerry Call Screener
Finally, I’ve found BlackBerry Call Screener indispensable for managing my calls. When I’m ‘in the zone’, I don’t like being interrupted with phone calls, and rather than turn my BlackBerry off altogether, I can set up Antair CallScreener to block all calls save for people on my ‘whitelist’ (mainly my partner and family) – anyone else can send me an email or leave a voicemail! Other options in the program include blocking all calls, blocking all calls save for people in your address book, and allowing all calls except for people on your blacklist.
Got any other BlackBerry applications you can recommend? Let’s hear about them in the comments.

The BlackBerry third party application scene has been pretty sad compared to other Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) over the years, but things have really picked up with the last couple of releases. The problem has been finding the apps in centralized spots as there have been numerous spots with 1 here, 1 there and so on. We’ve gathered up 7 sites that should help cure some of these headaches for you.
BlackBerryForums.Pinstack.com – A sub-category of the very busy Pinstack forums, has a little over 200 apps, divided into categories.
BlackBerryFreeware.com – Done in a blog style, this site has been running for several years now and posts detailed comments on each app they post.
BlackBerryToday.com – Over 200 applications with a mixture of Freeware, Shareware, and Commercial releases.
CrackBerry.com – An online retailer specializing in all things BlackBerry with a nice – albeit small – selection of freeware programs.
Handango.com – A centralized source for apps for all sorts of PDAs, and has over 3,000 for the various BlackBerrys. Features a mix of free and commercial releases.
RIMarkable.com – A blog all about the RIM devices with a large archive of articles and links to various software applications for your BlackBerry.
Stypod.com – Specializes in offering free items for your BlackBerry including apps, wallpapers, and more.
